Community Guidelines
Aftrword is a quiet place for honest, anonymous emotional writing. These guidelines keep it safe and worth coming back to. They reflect how the platform is moderated today.
What belongs here
Write what you couldn’t say out loud. Letters, confessions, reflections, grief, love, the things you carry. Text only, your voice only.
What does not
- Content that identifies, targets, or endangers a real person, whether yourself or anyone else.
- Sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualises a minor. Zero tolerance, reported to authorities.
- Harassment, hate, threats, or incitement to violence.
- Content promoting self-harm or suicide rather than processing it. If you are in crisis, please reach out to a local helpline.
- Spam, advertising, scams, or attempts to move people off-platform for exploitation.
- Sharing others’ private information, or impersonation.
Sexual content boundary
Aftrword permits literary writing about adult intimacy and desire between consenting adults. It does not permit sexually explicit content intended primarily for arousal, pornographic descriptions, or graphic depictions of sex acts. Sexual content involving minors is prohibited without exception and reported to authorities.
Politics zero-tolerance
Aftrword is not a platform for political content. Posts advocating for political parties, candidates, regulations, elected officials, partisan policy positions, or political mobilization are removed. This applies uniformly across the political spectrum and is enforced by automated pattern detection and human moderation.
How moderation works
Posts may be screened before or after publishing. Violations can lead to content removal, a strike, or (for serious or repeated harm) removal from the platform. You can report any post in the app, and you can appeal a decision. Visitors can also report content without an account at aftrword.com/legal/report.
Anonymity is a trust, not a shield
The point of anonymity is freedom to be honest, not freedom to harm. We protect your identity; we ask you to protect everyone else’s.
Aftrword is not a crisis service
Aftrword is a place to write, not a mental-health, crisis, medical, or therapy service. It is not a substitute for professional help, and nothing here is medical or psychological advice. We do not monitor posts in order to intervene in a personal emergency. If you are in crisis, in danger, or having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis helpline right away. A directory of free, confidential helplines worldwide is at findahelpline.com.
